User Roles Permissions

In Futurium, access and participation within a group depend on both the type of user and, for group members, any role assigned to them. Understanding these distinctions helps group administrators manage visibility, participation and responsibilities effectively.

Type of users

Futurium distinguishes between the following user types:

  • Anonymous users: site visitors who are not logged in.
  • Outsiders: Futurium members that are logged in, who are not members of your group.
  • Members: Futurium members that are logged in, who are members of your group.

Member roles

Members can have no role or be assigned as Editors, Moderators, or Community Managers.

Roles should only be given to users who will actively create content or help manage the group.

Member with no role

Members who do not have a specific role assigned have limited participation rights.

They can
  • Add comments: If the commenting feature is enabled in the group, they can add comments to posts and events. Please note that comments may be subject for revision and approval by Moderators and Community Managers.
  • Can view the list of their own published comments in “My account”, “View” tab, “Latest Comments”.
  • Leave the group at any time.
They cannot
  • Create other type of content such as Posts, Events or Pages.

Editor

Editors can create and manage their own content, but they do not have access to group administration settings.

They can
  • On the group’s main page, from the “Group actions” menu
    • Create and publish own content: Depending on the content moderation settings, Editors may be allowed to create and publish their own content, such as posts, events (if enabled), or pages.

If content moderation is disabled, the content is published automatically when it is saved.

If content moderation is enabled, a Moderator or Community Manager must review the content before it can be published. They may then either approve and publish it or reject it.

Once published, Editors can delete their own content, but they cannot unpublish it themselves. Unpublishing published content requires action by a Moderator or Community Manager.

    • Leave the group at any time.

If you see only “Leave group” instead of “Group actions”, this may indicate that your role or the group’s settings restrict your ability to create posts, events or pages.

  • Add comments: If the commenting feature is enabled in the group or subgroup, they can add comments to posts or events. Please note that comments may be subject for revision and approval by Moderators and Community Managers.
  • View the list of their own published comments in “My account”, “View” tab, “Latest Comments”.
  • Edit or delete own content: There are two ways for Editors to access their content, such as posts and events, in order to edit or delete it.
    • Option 1

Can access their own content via “My account” > “My contributions” to edit or delete it.

      When editing content:

      • Can use the option “Force notification to members” to send notifications about content changes
      • Can view or add revision information to track changes.
    • Option 2
      • Open a post or another type of content from a listing, for example from the group where it was posted. Available actions will include “View”, “Edit” or “Delete”.
      • Click the “Edit” tab to modify the content. Please note that Editors cannot unpublish content, however, they can still change or delete it.
      • Click the “Delete” tab to delete the content.
Additional details
  • View your contributions: In My Account > “My Contributions”, Editors can view only the content they have created themselves, such as their own posts, events, or pages. Contributions made by other users are not visible there.
  • However, Editors can still view published content by other members through the group’s public or shared pages.
  • Content and Comments moderation: Content moderation and comment moderation are managed separately. Depending on the settings enabled for each, content submissions and/or comments may need to be approved before publication.
    • If comment moderation is enabled:
      • Comments submitted by Editors must be reviewed and approved by a Moderator or Community Manager.
      • Comments are not publicly available until they have been approved.
    • If content moderation is enabled:
      • New content (for example a page, article, event, or other item) is not published immediately.
      • Instead, it is sent into a moderation workflow.
      • A user with the appropriate moderator permissions (Moderators and Community Managers) must review and approve the content before it becomes visible to the public.
      • Until it is approved, the content remains in an unpublished state.
      • If the moderator rejects it, it stays unpublished and may need to be revised and resubmitted.
They cannot
  • Create draft content. As the content created is published automatically once it is saved, they cannot create drafts.
  • Unpublish their own content. Although they can edit or delete the content, they cannot unpublish it.
  • Publish content created by other users.
  • Access group management options.
