Note that this feature may be restricted in some groups, depending on your role and the group settings.
Before creating an event, please review the “Use policy” section on the Futurium homepage.
Creating an event in Futurium allows you to announce webinars, workshops, meetings, and other activities within a group of which you are a member.
This section explains how to create and publish events in Futurium.
Who can create content?
Anonymous visitors cannot create pages, posts, or events on Futurium.
Only logged-in members of a group can interact with group content, and their available actions depend on the role and permissions assigned to them within that group.
Members without a specific role may be able to comment on posts, events, and pages, subject to the group’s settings, but they cannot create posts, events, or pages.
Members with roles such as Editor, Moderator or Community Manager, can create and manage group content according to the permissions granted in that group. As a result, events can only be created by logged-in group members who have the necessary permissions, depending on the group’s configuration.
How to create an event in a Futurium group
Please also note that Sensitive Non-Classified (SNC) documents must not be shared on Futurium. The platform explicitly prohibits uploading or distributing such material. Where secure handling is required, Community Managers should use alternative tools such as S-CIRCABC.
Follow the steps below to create an event in a Futurium group.
Steps to create an event
1. Log in to Futurium
- Click “Log in” at the top right of the Futurium website.
2. Navigate to the group

3. Open the event creation tool
- On the group’s main page, look for the “Group actions” menu, usually located near the top of the page. If you see only “Leave group” instead of “Group actions”, this may indicate that your role or the group’s settings restrict your ability to create posts, events or pages.

Content
When creating an event in Futurium, you can build its page using different content blocks. These blocks let you combine text and media in a flexible way, so you can present event details clearly and arrange them in the order that best suits your needs.
Futurium supports four main types of content blocks: Text, Document, Image and Video. You can use just one type of block or combine several within the same event page.
-
A text block is added by default when you start creating an event.
Here you can write your main event description, such as the purpose, agenda, speaker details, or participation instructions. The editor includes formatting tools such as bold, italic, underline, headings, lists, hyperlinks, alignment and indentation, and you can also add additional text blocks if needed.
- A document block allows you to attach one or several supporting files to your event, such as presentations, agendas or background materials. If the Public option is selected, the file can be accessed publicly; otherwise, it remains visible only to users who already have access to the event.
- An image block lets you upload a single image, for example an event banner, speaker photo or logo. You can add alternative text for accessibility, crop the image, and include a caption or link. Images can be marked as Public or kept visible only to users with access to the event.
- A video block allows you to embed a video by pasting its URL. Supported platforms are YouTube, Vimeo, and the European Commission Audiovisual Portal. This can be useful for adding promotional videos, recordings from past events or other supporting video content.
You can combine these blocks in any order within the same event. For example, you might begin with a text introduction, then add an image, attach a document and embed a video. Futurium also allows you to rearrange content blocks at any time using the reorder handle, drag and drop, or row weights, so you can refine the layout of your event page whenever needed.
Supported file formats include:
- Documents: TXT, DOC, XLS, DOCX, XLSX, PDF, PPT, PPTX. Maximum size of 200 MB per file.
- Images: PNG, GIF, JPG, JPEG. Maximum size of 200 MB per image.
- Videos: Embedded links from platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, or the EC Audiovisual Portal.
For step-by-step guidance, please refer to the “Manage Content Blocks” section, where you will find detailed instructions on how to:
- Add content blocks such as Text, Documents, Images and Videos.
- Reorder content blocks.
- Collapse, edit or remove content blocks.
Tags
You can add relevant tags to help categorize your post and improve its visibility in searches.
- Click “Add another item” button to add more tags.
- Click “Remove” button to delete tags.
Answer the antispam question
To prevent automated spam submissions, you must complete the antispam check.
- Answer the antispam question before continuing.
- To hear the question, click the “Audio version” tab. This allows you to hear the audio and enter the information on the screen.
- To get a new antispam question, click “Refresh”.
Publish checkbox (only available for Moderators and Community Managers)
Users with the appropriate permissions can decide whether to publish the post immediately or save it as a draft.
If you do not have the required permissions, this publishing option may not be shown to you, and your post will be published automatically when you save it.
Once you have completed the required fields, added any optional elements (images, documents, tags) and answered the antispam question, you can choose the publication status of your post.
The “Published” checkbox is ticked by default. This means that, unless you change it, the post will be published and become visible to the group when you click “Save”.
- Leave the “Published” box ticked to make the post visible to the group.
- Untick the “Published” box to save the post as a draft. Drafts are visible only to you, other Moderators and Community Managers. They can be edited and published later.
Note: After a post has been saved, you can later change its status to Published or Unpublished from My Account > My contributions.
More options
Under “More options”, you can find:
- Revision information: Displays the revision log message, if available. You can add a short note describing the changes you made.
5. Save
Click the “Save” button to save your event.
Event visibility after saving
After saving, what happens depends on your role in the group:
- Editors: Events are published automatically when saved and become visible to the group members straight away. Group members can then read, comment on, and interact with the content.
- Moderators and Community Managers: before saving, they can decide whether to keep the event as a draft or publish it. If they save it as Published, the event becomes visible to the group members. If they leave it unpublished, it remains hidden until it is published later.
