In Futurium, communities can be organised into parent groups and subgroups. A parent group can contain one or more subgroups dedicated to specific themes, workstreams or activities.
How subgroups work
Each subgroup has its own configuration and can operate independently from the parent group in several ways.
- Purpose: Subgroups provide more focused areas for discussion and collaboration within the broader context of the parent group.
- Navigation: Each group and subgroup has its own structure and navigation menu, allowing users to access relevant content and features directly. Typical menu items include Home, About, News, and Events.
- Membership settings: A subgroup is an independent space and may use different membership settings from its parent group.
- Default membership: By default, users who become members of a subgroup are automatically added to the parent group. This default behaviour can be changed by the Futurium team.
Membership rules
Membership is managed separately for each group and subgroup. This means that a user can:
- Join a parent group without joining any of its subgroups.
- Join one or more subgroups without being a member of the parent group, depending on the access settings defined for each space.
Inviting or adding members
Community Managers and Moderators can add members to the group or subgroup in two ways:
- Invite members: You can invite users through Futurium. They will receive an email notification about the invitation. If they want to accept or decline your invitation, they must sing in to their Futurium account using EU Login. An EU Login account is therefore required.
- Add members: You can add users via Futurium. They will automatically become a member of your group and will receive a confirmation email that they have become a member of the group. When adding a member, you can choose to assign no role or to give them the Editor or Moderator role.
Difference between the two options:
- Invite: If you invite users, they still have the choice to accept or decline the invitation. Users will also need to navigate to their account first and accept before becoming a member.
- Add: If you add users, they will automatically become a member, with no further action required.
