Stakeholder Consultation on Draft AI Ethics Guidelines - Deadline Extension

Dear members of the European AI Alliance,

We are pleased to announce that a Draft of the AI Ethics Guidelines, prepared by the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence (AI HLEG), was published on 18 December 2018. The AI HLEG also published a Definition on Artificial Intelligence which accompanies its deliverable.

The aim of the draft Guidelines’ publication is to share the work realised so far with stakeholders involved in the field of AI and collect their input on the document itself. For this purpose, we are launching a Stakeholder Consultation, initially due by 18 January 2019. After a considerable number of requests received, the Consultation’s deadline was extended to the 1st of February 2019.

The Stakeholders' Consultation Form will allow you to go through the individual sections, provide your input to each of them and comment on the draft document as a whole.

After the consultation process is completed, the AI HLEG will present a final version of the Guidelines to the Commission in March 2019. The ambition is then to bring Europe's ethical approach to the global stage.

Dear Ana-Maria,

Thank you for your comment! The idea for a debate to discuss the guidelines is an excellent one and we are looking forward to receiving the outcomes of it.

The Stakeholder Consultation process, launched after yesterday's publication of the Draft AI Ehics Guidelines, is part of a continuous input gathering process initiated with the creation of the European AI Alliance.

The aim of the consultation is to have the concrete document commented on by all interested stakeholders. The input received will already be discussed at a meeting with the AI HLEG and Member States representatives on 22 January 2019 (hence the deadline), but this will not be the only opportunity to comment. The debate will continue on the Alliance's platform after the consultation, and all feedback will remain welcome. Moreover, the Guidelines will be presented to the European AI Alliance Assembly that will be organised around March 2019, which will likewise be an opportunity for further discussion.

As this process aims to set an ethical basis to a rapidly growing AI landscape, the nature of the guidelines is thought to be a living document. This means that they will be improved with time by being constantly subjected to an update and feedback gathering process.

We look forward to receiving your input on the Guidelines through the consultation form and through the further debates and activities launched under the European Al Alliance!

Dear colleagues,

I've been studying your document very meticulously. Because I'm interested in the subject of AI, I have read a lot of literature from around the world. In this new area of knowledge there are many threads perceived in various ways and therefore it is difficult to forecast their further development. That's why I tried to find the "weak points" in your document and I hope that some of my insights will be included in your excellent document.

Regards,

Sania Kalitska
