We are pleased to introduce Martín Guillermo Ramírez, Secretary General of the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR), who will speak at the 26th Beyond Borders Breakfast Debate.
Martín Guillermo Ramírez brings over three decades of experience in international cooperation and cross-border relations. With a background in medicine (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery) and a Master’s in Humanitarian Medicine, he has dedicated his career to improving cooperation frameworks and supporting regions working across borders.
He previously worked in youth organisations (1989–1995) and later in the Regional Government of Extremadura (Spain), focusing on development cooperation, international relations, and health and welfare policies (1995–2006).
Since 2006, he has served as Secretary General of AEBR, one of Europe’s oldest regional associations. Under his leadership, AEBR represents the interests of border and cross-border regions towards EU institutions and national authorities, supports capacity building and strategic development, and promotes public policies that help overcome cross-border obstacles. The organisation also fosters exchange with cross-border processes worldwide.
At the debate, Martín will share perspectives from AEBR’s longstanding work supporting cooperation and practical solutions in Europe’s border regions.
