The ‘Resilient Borders – Cross-Border Spatial Planning and Crisis Management Pilot Actions’ is an initiative of the European Commission – DG REGIO to support resilience of border regions, managed by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) and the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière (MOT).
Following the successful call for proposals, 19 pilot actions are now underway, tackling critical challenges in two fields: Cross-Border Crisis Management and Cross-Border Spatial Planning. These projects will receive both financial and technical support to develop joint strategies, ensuring more integrated and effective collaboration across borders.
The context and focus of the 19 pilot actions is diverse. Pilot actions in the field of Cross-border Crisis Management related to flood and drought resilience, resilience to animal diseases, climate adaptation, disaster management, firefighting and emergency preparedness. Pilot actions in the field of Cross-Border Spatial Planning concern topics such as sustainable urban planning, cross-border functional area development, and the integration of metropolitan regions, ensuring more cohesive and efficient territorial planning.
With an eight-month implementation period, each pilot action will develop innovative tools and methodologies to build stronger, more resilient border regions.
