Facial recognition technology: The need for public regulation and corporate responsibility

Facial recognition technology raises issues that go to the heart of fundamental human rights protections like privacy and freedom of expression. These issues heighten responsibility for tech companies that create these products. They also call for thoughtful government regulation and for the development of norms around acceptable uses. Brad Smith, Microsoft's President has set out thoughts for regulation and corporate responsibility.

Yes - I agree with both comments as to the broader AI-powered biometric recognition systems as well as to the protection existing in GDPR and in the Directive for data protection in the police and justice sectors. Use protections may also be formulated in a defensive way, that is  similar to the right not to self-incriminate.
