Commission launches call for expression of interest for a pilot among border regions to enhance cooperation on the enforcement of the Single Market.

As the European Commission announced in its SME strategy,  it has launched a call for pioneer partnerships among border regions to enhance cooperation on the enforcement of the Single Market.

The Commission will select up to 5 pioneer partnerships among border regions through a pilot to enhance cooperation in enforcing the Single Market and removal of administrative barriers.

In the spirit of a bottom-up single market, border regions will be mobilised that have already acknowledged market access barriers due to regulatory or administrative obstacles and that are willing to work closely together on solutions.

The pilot should lead to long-lasting structured partnerships of volunteering border regions, which eventually should alleviate or abolish market access barriers for cross-border service providers.

The Commission will provide guidance to the selected partnerships in order to facilitate their out-of-the box thinking among others by exchanging good practices for the same barrier(s) in other border regions. Further to that, the pioneer partnerships will receive also guidance in the application of the cross-border mechanism.
