The aim of this article, published in the  Review of World Economics (October 2007, Vol. 143, Issue 3, pp. 433-463)  is to determine what are the border effects (here through the examples of France and Germany) through other kinds of datas than those on regional trade flows that can miss. Here the parameters used in order to estimate the border effects are datas on regional transportation flows.
