In recent years, the alarming spread of wildfires across Europe has had damaging impacts on communities, economies, and ecosystems. As temperatures soar and droughts become more frequent and intense, the risk of wildfires is likely to escalate throughout the continent. This will lead to changes in forests and how we manage them. The key question remains: Will these changes be driven mainly by natural disasters or by climate-proof management strategies?   

This webinar aims to increase the awareness about evolving wildfire risks and hotspots of wildfires while sharing knowledge and experiences on effective actions that regional and local authorities can take. Building on ongoing European research and innovation projects, the webinar will showcase solutions to inspire wildfire resilience and readiness actions for regions and local authorities.  

The webinar kicks off with an overview of past wildfire impacts and future projections, drawing from the EU Climate Risk Assessment. Participants will then be able to deep-dive into the main part of the session, which will provide snapshots of solutions and technologies implemented across various EU regions. These examples illustrate actionable steps that regions and local authorities can take to benefit from these solutions in their own areas. The session concludes with a Q&A session, providing the space for discussion and sharing valuable links to resources provided by the innovation projects.
