On 27 January, there will be an online workshop to present the results of the study for the Commission’s review of the Broadband Cost Reduction Directive. The contractors carrying out the study, WIK-consult, together with ICF and Eco-Act, will present the results of the analysis and answer participants’ questions.
The workshop will start with an introduction by the European Commission and then follow with a presentation of the study objectives and methodology. WIK-Consult will present the results of the study, including the results of the evaluation, as well as their proposed options for the revision and impact assessment. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss in Q&A sessions following the presentations.
The BCRD study workshop will take place online on 27 January 2022 from 9.30h - 12.30h.
Interested participants can register by 21 January and consult the workshop programme (.pdf).
Background
The Broadband Cost Reduction Directive aims to facilitate and incentivise the roll-out of high-speed electronic communications networks by lowering the costs of deployment with a set of harmonised measures. The Commission is currently working on the review of the Directive.
In support of the review, the contractor organised workshops to discuss the preliminary results of the study for the review of the BCRD. More so, a public consultation sought views from businesses, associations, public authorities and the interested public on the implementation of the Directive and on possible future measures. The summary report of the consultation takes stock of the contributions and presents preliminary trends that emerge from them. This input will be taken into account in the preparation of the legislative proposal for a revised instrument, foreseen before the summer 2022.
