On December 12th, 2023, the European Commission adopted an amended proposal for a 'Regulation on Facilitating Cross-Border Solutions' to assist Member States in addressing obstacles impacting the 150 million citizens residing in Europe's cross-border regions. These obstacles, stemming from differing technical standards or national administrative and legal provisions that do not consider the cross-border dimension, hinder infrastructure development and public services, affecting healthcare access and disaster response coordination.

The proposed regulation aims to enhance the EU Single Market and reduce legal and administrative barriers by setting up Cross-Border Coordination Points (CBCPs) for assessing and resolving issues. These CBCPs will act as a liaison between stakeholders requesting assistance and the national authorities, while employing the voluntary standard procedure of the Cross-Border Facilitation Tool whenever necessary.
