A new EU platform will support Wellbeing and Health promotion with Digital tools

The Wellbeing and Health promotion sub-group of the "Active and Healthy Living in the Digital World" community platform is aimed at supporting and hosting specific discussions and work on people-centred digitally enabled health and care and well-being promoting tools and mobile devices.

Person/people-centred approaches to organising health and care can allow citizens to assume responsibility for their health, improve their well-being and the quality of care and contribute to sustainable health systems. By using digital solutions, such as wearables and mHealth apps, citizens can actively engage in health promotion and self-management of chronic conditions. This in turn can help control the rising demand for health and care. Digital tools hold great potential to disseminate scientific knowledge in an easily accessible form, so as to help people stay in good health – thus preventing them from turning into patients. Building on scientific information on risk factors, digital solutions can be used across all sectors, including in education, transport, and urban policies to promote information and awareness campaigns on healthy lifestyles. Digital tools also enable citizens to provide feedback and data about their health to their doctors. This can improve the quality of health services and ultimately people's health and well-being.

Throughout Horizon 2020 funding programme, many digital solutions have been developed for the improvement of wellbeing of young people, for chronic disease management, such as diabetes or cystic fibrosis, as well as for wellbeing virtual coaches for better wellbeing and healthy lives as we age, such as: NESTORE,  vCARECAPTAINWellCoCouncil of Coachesm-RESISTDynaMOREselfBACKI-PrognosisPRECISE4QmyAirCoachMyCyFAPPHSmonitorPALPOWER2DMProEmpowerBigOSound of VisionHOLOBALANCE and many more.

Building on the work of several EIP on AHA action groups, this platform’s overarching focus includes topics, such as:

  • Lifespan health promotion and prevention – promoting healthy lifestyles, improve mental health, chronic disease management and prevention strategies;

  • Person-centred health and care – development and implementation of innovative models that can be used to improve, or substitute current health care delivery systems and use of big data and technological innovations for better health and care delivery

  • Co-creation as a key to adoption of innovation for better health and wellbeing.
