International Youth Day: Celebrating youth empowerment for a more sustainable future

In 1999, the United Nations endorsed a resolution declaring 12 August International Youth Day. The day places youth issues at the centre of the international community and celebrates the great contribution of youth to society.

Marking the 25th anniversary of International Youth Day, this year's theme is "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development", acknowledging the key role that young people play in harnessing the power of technology and driving innovation for a more sustainable future.

The United Nations (UN) forecasts that digital technologies will contribute to achieving 70% of the 169 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets while potentially reducing the cost of achieving these goals by up to USD 55 trillion. Digital transformation is also key to the European Commission's delivery of a Europe Fit for a Digital Age, opening opportunities for business, innovation, and tackling climate change.

With young people leading the adoption of digital technologies around the world and driving innovation, it is crucial to provide them with the right support. The Youth Start-Up Competition (YSC) offers a unique opportunity for young visionaries to showcase their start-up ideas and gain recognition. This prestigious competition is looking for young innovators aged 18 to 25 who are passionate about addressing global challenges like climate change while upholding European values.

If you have a transformative idea that deserves to be known, submit your entry. You will have the chance to present your idea at the SME Assembly 2024 (Budapest, Hungary, 18-20 November) and gain invaluable networking opportunities. Submissions are open until 20 September 2024.

Apply today and join the next generation of entrepreneurs that will shape a better future for Europe!
