The Social Affairs Forum of Eurocities offers an excellent occasion to inform cities about the work of the Housing Partnership. The scope of the partnership´s work is on social housing in its broadest sense, on affordable private rental and on affordable home ownership. The member states and cities involved cover different national and regional housing systems which are exemplary for the different realities throughout the EU.

It has been a great pleasure to present the work of the Housing Partnership to the Eurocities Social Affairs Forum in Lisbon today. All over Europe, cities face a lack of affordable housing for a broad share of their population, as was highlighted in the discussions. The affordability gap in housing concerns 81,5 million citizens in the EU, and the lower the income, the higher the burdon on families and people. Integrated urban policies must be better reflected when it comes to EU legislation and funding, but a new view to longterm investments in housing is needed as well.
