Several outstanding projects were recognised for their contributions to entrepreneurship and small business support at the European Enterprise Awards during the SME Assembly 2024. Among these, the Tartu Film Fund, launched by Tartu Loomemajanduskeskus (Tartu Centre for Creative Industries), enhances economic development in South Estonia by attracting both domestic and international film productions to the area. The fund plays a crucial role in promoting local film-related service providers, aiding in their professional growth, and showcasing the potential of Southern Estonia as a prime filming location on the global stage.
We asked Signe Somelar-Erikson about winning the fourth category, "Improving the Business Environment and Supporting the Internationalisation of Business."
What was it like to win an EEPA prize? Can you describe the feeling and what it means for you and your project?
Winning the EEPA prize was an extraordinary moment of pride and validation for the Tartu Film Fund and the Southern Estonian film community. It was a recognition of our work in bridging the creative arts and economic development, and it reaffirmed the potential of using film as a driver for regional growth. For our team, this award symbolises not just success but also responsibility—to continue supporting local businesses, fostering international collaboration, and showcasing the unique cultural and natural wealth of Southern Estonia to the world. This recognition inspires us to dream bigger and strengthen our role as a catalyst for economic and cultural exchange.
Why should others consider participating in EEPA 2025? What advice would you give to other enterprise and entrepreneurship promoters?
EEPA is more than a competition—it’s a platform to share your story, connect with a network of innovative minds, and gain visibility for your project on a European stage. Participating offers valuable opportunities to benchmark your work against others, refine your vision, and receive recognition for your achievements.
For those considering EEPA 2025, my advice is to focus on the tangible impact of your initiative. Be clear about how your project addresses real needs, fosters collaboration, and creates long-term value. Above all, be passionate—your enthusiasm for your mission can truly inspire others and set your project apart.
Describe what EEPA means to you in three words.
Recognition. Inspiration. Growth.
