Thirty-three Projects Set to Boost Climate Resilience Across Europe

In a major step toward advancing climate adaptation and environmental sustainability, the European Commission has launched 33 groundbreaking projects aimed at showcasing climate resilience solutions. These projects, funded with approximately EUR 185 million in grants, are set to bolster efforts to support the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.

The projects launched in 2024 represent an integrated approach to tackling Europe’s most pressing environmental challenges, combining climate adaptation with water conservation efforts. This approach addresses the cross-cutting goals of the EU Missions on Climate Adaptation, Oceans, and a Soil Deal for Europe, ensuring a holistic strategy for the sustainability of Europe’s ecosystems and water resources.

These initiatives bring together over 560 beneficiaries from more than 40 countries. The participants include SMEs, research institutions, local authorities, schools, and businesses, all united in the effort to deploy innovative solutions to climate resilience. Their collective expertise will contribute to vital actions that promote sustainable water management, coastal protection, soil health, and ecosystem restoration.

The projects will play a crucial role in driving the European Green Deal forward, helping communities adapt to the impacts of climate change. The broad collaboration aims to provide practical solutions that will have a lasting impact on regional landscapes and ecosystems across Europe, ensuring water security and environmental sustainability for generations to come.

The projects are broken down into each Mission, with one sitting across all three:

  • HORIZON-MISS-2023-CLIMA-01 call – nine projects were financed out of the 53 proposals received;
  • HORIZON-MISS-2023-OCEAN-01 call – 23 projects have signed a grant out of the 76 proposals received;
  • HORIZON-MISS-2023-CLIMA-OCEAN-SOIL-01 call – one project was financed out of the three proposals received.
