What is the best way to engage citizens in cross border cooperation?

11th Breakfast Debate

Citizen engagement plays a vital role in fostering successful cross-border cooperation. Our second poll question explores the best strategies to maximize citizen involvement in cross border cooperation efforts.

Poll Question: Which one of the following options do you think has the greatest potential in engaging ordinary cross border citizens to get involved in cross border cooperation:

  1. Involvement in the shaping of Interreg programs and their priorities via public consultations.
  2. Involvement in cross-border community cooperation projects and initiatives (e.g., people-to-people, NGOs etc).
  3. Involvement in initiatives organized by local governments.
  4. Involvement in designing the Strategic and/or Action Plans of structures of cooperation (e.g., European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTCs), Eurocities, Euroregions, etc.).

The attendants of the 11th Breakfast Debate clearly favored the second option regarding the involvement in cross-border community cooperation projects and initiatives such as people to people projects and NGO involvement.
