This is a side-event of the Internet for Trust Global Conference

Organizer(s): UNESCO, GlobalPolicy.AI and OECD

Room VII, UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, France

21 February 2023, 14:00 - 15:30 CET

Format: Hybrid

Recent developments in Generative AI systems have sparked a global conversation about the capabilities and limitations of generative AI technology. These systems have been in the spotlight for their ability to generate human-like text, images, design, and even code, highlighting the tremendous potential of this technology. However, they have also raised concerns about ownership, transparency, and the potential for bias, misinformation, and the human rights and ethical implications of creating content through AI.

As AI continues to reshape our world, it's crucial that we discuss and understand the potential and challenges of generative AI systems and work together to establish a responsible and equitable regulatory framework.

Join us for a thought-provoking session as we delve into the world of Generative AI and its impact on regulating AI and online platforms. The session is designed to provide a platform for an in-depth exploration of the important issues linked to generative AI, and to foster a constructive and informed dialogue about the future of these technologies.

The session will conclude with an interactive dialogue to consult stakeholders for input to contribute to the development of guidelines and recommendations for a regulatory framework.

Session objectives

The session will consult with stakeholders on:

  1. The impact of generative AI on AI regulation, and;
  2. The use of generative AI on digital platforms and its implications for information as a public good.

The discussion outcomes will be submitted as input for the open consultations for the Global Digital Compact.
