Continuing its efforts to enhance 5G corridor infrastructure, the European Union has selected seven projects for funding under the Connecting Europe Facility Programme – Digital (CEF Digital) in 2024, following the initial set of projects launched in 2023.

The selected projects are as follows:

1. 5G BALKANS (Bulgaria-Serbia) - €3,364,403

Ensuring uninterrupted connectivity by deploying dark fiber and gigabyte infrastructure across the cross-border segment Sofia – Dimitrovgrad.

2. BALTCOR5G (Poland-Czech Republic) - €2,058,524

Deploying 5G and C-v2x infrastructure to enable seamless network coverage along the Baltic-Adriatic 5G Corridor.

3. IrishSea5GCOR (North Ireland-Rosslare Harbour) - €5,206,719

Addressing market-failure areas through active and passive 5G infrastructure implementation across the Irish Sea corridor.

Inception Studies:

1. 5GHSL Eurolink (France - Belgium)- €433,145

Preparing for 5G infrastructure along a rail cross-border section for enhanced passenger connectivity and rail operations digitalization.

2. 5G FRÉJUS (Italy-France) - €400,723

Assessing the effort needed to deploy 5G across the Fréjus rail and road tunnels, focusing on digital services' development.

3. 5G-ADRIA (Slovenia-Croatia) - €735,225

Focusing on defining 5G infrastructure requirements for traffic-related services along TEN-T transport corridors.

4. EUR 5G-SITACOR (Italy-Slovenia) - €342,742

Assessing technical needs for the TEN-T Mediterranean and Baltic-Adriatic corridors' deployment of high-performance infrastructure. 

These cross-border cooperation projects aim to strengthen Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) across various transport modes, facilitating seamless connectivity and service continuity across Europe's regions.
