Climate adaptation and energy transition as key challenges for EU cities

In 2021, COP26 will take place in Glasgow to accelerate actions towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

EU institutions, Member-States, regions and cities have long called for action and stressed the urgency to foster energy transition and climate adaptation, especially at the city level.

In this context, two Partnerships of the Urban Agenda for the EU - Energy Transition and Climate Adaptation - have sought to help urban practitioners develop better climate adaption measures by focusing on energy efficiency and energy transition initiatives in urban areas.

Organised under the Green dimension on the New Leipzig Charter, the second article of our series presents some of the key flagship initiatives of these Partnerships.

The article also includes examples supported by the URBACT programme, Urban Innovative Actions projects (UIA) and integrated urban strategies supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) together with concrete tools and methodologies, which can be applied further by interested cities.

Have a read by downloading the article, and keep your eyes peeled for more!
