The Eurodistrict PAMINA is reinforcing cross-border mobility for young people through a summer initiative that enables the mutual recognition of youth transport tickets across the French-German border. The measure will be implemented from 1 July to 31 August 2026 and involves the German federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland together with the Région Grand Est. During this period, young ticket holders will be able to use their national or regional youth transport passes across participating public transport networks without additional costs thereby supporting seamless travel within this cross-border functional area. The initiative is embedded in PAMINA’s broader strategy to improve everyday mobility in a region where cross-border commuting and social interaction are a structural reality.
The scheme is based on the reciprocal acceptance of existing youth transport products issued by the relevant transport authorities in the participating regions. This includes seasonal and regional youth passes that are normally valid only within their issuing transport networks. During the July–August 2026 period, these tickets will be recognised across the defined cross-border zones of the Eurodistrict PAMINA cooperation area, covering selected rail and bus connections operated within the participating transport associations. The arrangement does not require the creation of a new tariff product but relies on administrative coordination between transport operators and regional authorities to extend the geographic validity of existing tickets for the duration of the pilot phase.
