The Academic Guide to AI Act Compliance 2025 available

Dear stakeholders,

We are pleased to present the Academic Guide to AI Act Compliance, a practical academic handbook designed to demystify the AI Act’s concepts and requirements and to support organisations throughout their compliance journey. The guide brings together expert, compliance-focused contributions that will be relevant for industry stakeholders, public administrations, academia, and civil society. It has just been published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommerical-NoDerivates (CC-BY-NC-ND) License, and is freely available on HAL open science:

The handbook serves three complementary objectives:

  1. A hands-on reference for compliance and regulatory professionals working with the AI Act;
  2. A clear and comprehensive analysis to support policy work by EU and national decision-makers, as well as NGOs and other civil society actors;
  3. A contribution to academic debate on the EU’s current AI regulatory landscape and its future direction.

To provide a structured compliance pathway, the guide follows an approach inspired by ISO management system standards, organised into four main parts:

  • Scope of the Compliance Scheme (Chapters 1–4)
  • Major Requirements for High-Risk AI Systems (Chapters 5–8)
  • Compliance Tools and Processes (Chapters 9–12)
  • Compliance Evaluation in Practice (Chapters 13–15)

We look forward to engaging with the Apply AI Alliance community on best practices, implementation challenges, and lessons learned as the AI Act begins to take effect.
