Bilingualism in the Functional Tri-Border Region AT-HU-SK: First results

It is common understanding that the importance of cross-border kindergarten and school attendance is already very high, and that kindergarten and school visits will increase significantly in the future. The biggest challenge for these mutual visits is the lack of clear legal and regulatory frameworks, followed by funding and resources. The project group is currently working on recommendations and alternative solutions with the aim of changing and improving the current situation.

On the 27th of May 2019, the steering group had a meeting and reported on the progress of the project. Main achievements so far:

  • Interviews and talks with relevant stakeholderswere conducted in order to get an overview of the legal background from the point of view of the relevant authorities.
  • The map of hotspots was updated, and now provides an actual overview of existing cooperation of schools and kindergartens within the border region.
  • Regarding the promotion of neighbour languages, recommendations were elaborated.
