Joint EU-US Catalogue of Best Practices on Green Public Procurement

With green public procurement, public authorities seek to procure goods, services and works that have a reduced impact on the environment throughout the lifecycle of these goods, services and works.

At the occasion of the sixth ministerial meeting of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council, which took place on 4-5 April in Leuven, the European Union and the United States have issued a Joint EU-US Catalogue of Best Practices on Green Public Procurement. The Joint Catalogue is a outcome of the exchanges and work Working Group on Climate and Clean Tech.

The Joint EU-US Catalogue presents the policies, practices and actions used in all stages of the procurement process, from strategic planning and pre-procurement to procurement and the post-contract award stage. It addresses environmental and climate challenges, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, or promoting circular economy approaches.

The catalogue serves as inspiration for policymakers and suppliers globally, and provides ideas for the uptake of green solutions in public procurement worldwide.
