In 2019, the Regional BCO of Lower Saxony, in Germany, launched the project “Deployment of 5G broadband infrastructure in the North Sea”.

The project is considered significant for the digitalisation of the cargo and cruising ship industry in Europe’s North. Due to the extreme weather conditions in the North Sea, as well as other conditions such as the Earth’s curvature, the deployment of the infrastructure is challenging. Once the project succeeds, it can be used as an example for replication in other coastal areas of Europe.
