In its plenary session of 16-18 September 2020, the EESC adopted its opinion on the Commission's proposal for the programme EU4Health.

The Committe called for the creation of  a "Health Pact for the Future of Europe" and stressed the importance of reinforcing the role of the EU in the field of health, as demonstrated by the COVID-19 pandemics. The programme EU4Health could also contribute to tackling health inequalities, but to accomplish this, sufficient resources should be allocated. The EESC asked therefore to increase the budget for the programme, in line with the European Parliament, after the cuts but forward by the Council in July 2020.
