WHAT

Cross-border cooperation between the Netherlands and Germany seeks to enhance regional competitiveness particularly by supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy, but also greatly value socio-cultural cohesion by facilitating collaboration among citizens, companies, and institutions.

As part of the cultural cooperation efforts, Germany and the Netherlands bring together four border-cities to jointly launch the first Limburg Cross-Border Museum Month. This initiative opens the doors of 13 museums with a single ticket during the period of November 10 to December 10. During the first weekend, the initiative offered free bus rides connecting the 4 regions and the participating museums. Also worth mentioning is that admission for all visitors under 18 is free.

The four cross-border cities participating are Venlo, Krefeld, Roermond, and Mönchengladbach with a total population of over 650.000 people.

RESULTS

The expected impact of Museum Month involves boosting museum visitation and the appreciation of cultural treasures within the border region by facilitating cultural exploration. Offering free admission to visitors under 18 intends to raise awareness and establish a replicable model for promoting the abundant cultural wealth across other cross-border regions.
