The ACROSS project team has just published a policy brief titled "The significance of internal border regions".
This policy brief focuses on the demographic, economic and employment dynamics of internal land border regions from 2007 to 2024, as these regions represent a major part of the total number of internal border regions of the EU and with EFTA countries. Particularly for cross-border topics, the brief emphasises that internal EU and EFTA border regions are deeply shaped by cross-border socioeconomic dynamics, notably through the presence of cross-border workers and integrated labour markets that fuel economic growth in areas like Luxembourg and the Upper Rhine region. It also notes that cross-border commuting and cooperation are central to these regions’ economic performance, while administrative and legal obstacles still hinder deeper cross-border regional integration.
