The Interreg GO! event, held on 27–28 March 2025 in the twin border cities of Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia), celebrated 35 years of European territorial cooperation. These historically divided cities now symbolise reconciliation and unity, and together they serve as the 2025 European Capital of Culture under the theme "GO! Borderless."
The event emphasised the importance of involving youth in shaping Interreg's future and highlighted the role of interregional and cross-border programmes in fostering cross-border collaboration in infrastructure, cultural, environmental, and economic projects. Over 15,000 stakeholders participated in consultations on the future of European territorial cooperation, with Interreg standing as a key political instrument promoting European unity and resilience.
EU Vice-President Fitto underscored the need for continued cooperation in today’s unstable global climate, noting Interreg’s contributions to solidarity, enlargement, and cohesion. A dedicated youth event engaged 200 students, showcasing successful projects and encouraging active youth participation.
As Gorizia and Nova Gorica exemplify the power of cross-border unity, Interreg stands out as a vital force in building a more connected and inclusive Europe.
