Benefits of becoming a signatory of the Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-generated content

On 10 June, the European Commission published the final Code of Practice on marking and labelling of AI-generated content. These transparency requirements help people recognise when content has been generated or altered by AI, reducing the risk of deception and manipulation.

The Code is voluntary, and the AI Office is inviting providers and deployers to become signatories ahead of the entry into application of the AI Act’s obligations on 2 August 2026.

Benefits of becoming an early signatory:

Signatories will be publicly listed in July 2026, demonstrating their commitment to transparent AI. For them, future enforcement will be focused on monitoring adherence to the code, which offers greater predictability, legal certainty across the EU, as well as reduced administrative burden.

Organisations who sign the code will also enjoy streamlined compliance, regardless of their place of establishment, operation and competent market surveillance authorities.
