Happy 1st birthday of European Health Data Space (EHDS)!  

It has already been one year since the #EHDS Regulation entered into force.

One year since we took a major leap forward in the digital age, strengthening the resilience of EU’s health systems and empowering EU citizens to have greater control over their electronic health data.  

As the new rules roll out, what are the specific benefits of the EHDS?

✅ Access: thanks to the EHDS, citizens can quickly access their electronic health data anytime and anywhere in the EU. Health professionals across the EU will be able to view patient medical records, where relevant for treatment and in full compliance with EU data protection standards.

✅ Control: EU citizens will have greater control over their health data, simplifying the process of sharing it with health professionals but also providing options to restrict access to sensitive data, even across borders. 

✅ Innovation: the EHDS will promote the reuse of health data supporting research, innovation, and evidence-based policy-making, including the adoption of new life-saving treatments and improved health system performance. Security and privacy are ensured, as with access to health data will only be allowed under specific circumstances and conditions. 

To ensure that by 2029 the EHDS will be able to deliver on all its objectives and make the difference for EU citizens, we are working closely with the Member States and key stakeholders.
