The attached position paper contains inputs and comments of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) with regard to EU-US Export Control Cooperation under the TTC.
Summary:
The automotive industry is in the middle of the most significant transformation process in its history. The European Union aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Protecting the climate requires substantial investments in R&D amongst others. Politicians and industry leaders must work together to identify efficiencies and adjust the legal framework to encourage the automotive industry to continue to develop green transportation solutions in Europe.
Unfortunately, the speed of technical developments is not reflected by the legal developments and controls esp. within the relevant export control regimes. Right now, the law is far behind today’s technology. Therefore, VDA encourages the lawmakers to remove these obstacles by adding release clauses to the list positions relating to the new technologies. By releasing the items for the automotive industry but maintaining the list positing provides the Community with continued control over the item, while allowing the item to be used for positive purposes, i.e., green mobility.
About VDA: The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) consists of more than 620 companies involved in production for the automotive industry in the Federal Republic of Germany. The members are divided into three manufacturer groups: automobile manufacturers, automotive suppliers, and trailers, special bodies, buses.
