Together with the OECD, DG REGIO is working on ways to improve cross-border governance. In 2023-2024, 5 pilot regions have been analysed with the aim to identify key success factors for a good cross-border governance. On this basis an analytical tool is being prepared so that cross-border regions can identify the areas for improvement.

We are inviting cross-border co-operation experts and practitioners from across the EU to participate a conference in Brussels on 18 and 19 June 2024. The objective is to present and discuss this analytical tool to build more resilient cross-border regions. The tool identifies key areas for consideration and recommendations for action by cross-border regions that are interested in establishing or reinforcing cross-border governance mechanisms.

Through a series of thematic sessions and a workshop, the conference aims to facilitate exchange and debate among cross-border experts and practitioners about the pillars and recommendations included in the analytical tool. It will address topics such as the co-development of cross-border strategies and projects; cross-border service delivery; ensuring sustainable funding and financing for European Groupings of Territorial Co-operation (EGTCs); promotion and advocacy of cross-border issues; and co-ordinating multi-level relationships.
