The first Estonian-Latvian AI machine translator EstLat Translator has been created.

As a result of cross-border cooperation project, the first cloud-based solution for written translations between Estonian and Latvian - EstLat Translator - has been completed and presented on 27 April 2021. The machine translator, developed by the language technology company Tilde (LV) and the translation agency Avatar (EE), offers reliable, modern machine translation to individuals, companies and organizations in the two countries.

Neural machine translation (NMT) is based on deep machine learning based on a large volume of human translated texts. Avatar is a large translation company that uses translation technologies, having collected a considerable amount of translation data. Tilde has the knowledge and experience in language technology development to link these translations to the NMT service. Tilde trained Latvian and Estonian translation engines with almost 24 million sentences, the programme does not use the third language.

The project was supported by the Interreg V-A Estonia-Latvia programme 2014-2020.

Congratulations for the completion of this project supported by Interreg Estonia-Latvia!!! A very good example of joint work to remove cross-border obstacles and certainly a very useful tool for future cooperation projects and daily interactions!
