The European Commission recently launched a public consultation on Demography Change which aims to show the main drivers of such change and the impact that this is having across Europe. It will help identify concrete solutions to problems that arise from these developments.

The impact of demographic change could affect border areas (i.e. due to differing population levels in member states). Improving labour market performance in Europe will become more important and integrated border areas are needed to foster labour mobility. Rapid population change in some areas will also lead to new opportunities, such as investment in infrastructure, to ensure access for an aging population.
