The Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) and the EU Commission’s DG REGIO have performed the quality assessment of the 27 applications received under the III call for proposals of the initiative b-solutions and have selected a total of 23 cases of legal and administrative obstacles limiting cross-border cooperation in EU and EFTA internal land borders.
The call for proposals remained opened from 08 July to 11 October 2020 and public bodies and cross-border structures had the occasion to submit a proposal for a case to identify and document an obstacle encountered while cooperating with the neighboring region(s).
The 23 selected cases will soon receive the support of legal experts with knowledge of cross-border instances whom are awarded by AEBR and DG REGIO upon participation in a dedicated call for expression of interest.
The experts will cooperate with the successful cases in structuring the definition of the obstacle identified in a clear and systematic way, as well as to elaborate a solution and outline a legal framework from which to proceed.
The implementation period will last until end of January 2021.
To continue raising awareness and mutual learning among the cross-border stakeholders, the regional, national and European institutions, in conclusion of the analyses collected within the present and the next call for proposals, a second compendium of the reports elaborated by the experts will be produced by AEBR in cooperation with the European Commission.
