Dear members of the European AI Alliance,
You will have seen our work on the Assessment List for Trustworthy AI and we highly encourage you to test the web-based tool we developed, as an individual or in your respective organisational capacity.
At the same time, you will recall that we have also promised to update our work on the Policy and Investment Recommendations for Trustworthy AI, where we delivered 33 recommendations to the European Commission last June, during our first European AI Alliance Assembly.
We noted that what is now needed is an approach that takes AI’s context specificity into consideration. To that end we have decided to focus on three areas:
(ii) The Healthcare Sector group (lead by Barry O’Sullivan);
(iii) The Manufacturing and Industrial IoT sector group (lead by Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl and Pierre Lucas).
All three sectors are crucial to the competitiveness of Europe, for innovation and for the long term well-being of citizens.
For each of those sectors, we adapted our initial in-person workshops to several smaller online workshops, ensuring that we could still benefit from the insight of relevant experts while taking the pandemic situation and individual constraints into consideration. We thank all those who have been able to make our workshops for their insightful comments.
Our sectorial lense allowed us to provide guidance on the implementation of our recommendations, revision and novel adaptations, which lead to our final output: a synthesis of recommendations across the three sectors.
The times ahead of us all in Europe are promising and we hope that the work the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence has conducted in this space will be helpful to those implementing it in their relevant sectors.
