Commission supports breakthrough European AI architecture developed on EuroHPC supercomputers

Dragon LLM (formerly Lingua Custodia) received EU support from the European Large AI Grand Challenge and access to EuroHPC's top-tier supercomputers, Leonardo and JUPITER.

Dragon, a new AI architecture launched by Dragon LLM, is designed to power future large language models and redefine performance and sustainability benchmarks for language models.

This milestone demonstrates Europe’s ability to design and train sovereign, energy-efficient, and high-performance AI systems.

Key achievements:

  • Breakthrough hybrid design optimised for long-form text and complex reasoning, reducing energy consumption and inference costs.
  • High performance with lower computational needs — achieves leading-model quality using only one-third of the computing power.
  • Deployable on standard servers, removing dependency on large GPU clusters.
  • Exceptional energy efficiency, offering a sustainable alternative amid rising data centre energy use.
  • Superior operational performance, serving twice as many users as comparable models on equivalent hardware.
  • Scalable model family, with the first Dragon architecture built on 3.6 billion parameters and larger versions forthcoming.
