More and more often, decisions with vast impact on our everyday life are made by artificial intelligence (AI), be it the granting of mortgages, be it in medical situations, in crime-prevention or in such mundane features as web searches. AI provides us with various possibilities and chances, each coming with ethical and societal challenges: Which ethical specification shall a developer follow while coding an algorithm, and who should define these specifications?

This is the reason why Deutsche Telekom (DT) as leading European Telco has devised digital ethics guidelines on AI for its AI processes and AI Products and their usage. The goal is not only set a framework for DT but to invite other companies, consumer, associations, politicans and citizens to discuss ethical questions in this area.

This booklet represents the self-binding guidelines of the for the development and use of AI and explains these. The challenges from a European point of view, the development process for the guidelines as well as possibilities for internal implementation are descibed.
