On 6 May 2025, the European Parliament adopted the Border Regions’ instrument for development and growth – BRIDGEforEU regulation, marking a seminal point in the facilitation of cross-border cooperation through the identification and solving of cross-border obstacles!

BRIDGEforEU encourages EU Member States to set up Cross-Border Coordination Points to identify and address obstacles raised by local stakeholders. Recognized issues can then be addressed using a voluntary Cross-Border Facilitation Tool, though decisions to resolve them remain with national authorities. The initiative follows 10 years of negotiation and aims to support border region development without burdening administrations. It will take effect 20 days after its publication in the EU’s Official Journal.
