Meet our speakers: 

?Slawomir Tokarski️, Director for the European Territorial Cooperation, Macro-regions, Interreg and Programmes Implementation, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy

Sławomir Tokarski obtained PhD degree at the European University Institute in Florence in 1995. He joined the Polish administration and headed a team co-ordinating the preparations for the accession negotiations and preparing policy analysis for the Chief Negotiator. In 2004 he joined the Commission as a Cabinet member of the Commissioner responsible for the regional policy. In 2009 he was nominated Head of Unit dealing with economic policy and coordination of EU funding in DG MARE. In March 2012 he became Head of Defence,Aeronautics and Maritime industries in DG Enterprise. From 2016 until 2021, he was a
Director in DG GROW responsible for Industrial policy and Innovation. In 2021, Sławomir Tokarski joined DG REGIO as a Director for the European Territorial
Cooperation, Macro-regions, Interreg and Programmes Implementation I.

?Kitti Dubniczki, director at CESCI  

Kitti Dubniczki is a director of the Budapest-based CESCI, which aims to decrease the separating effects of the state borders in Central Europe. She has been working there since 2013 on designing and writing strategic plans, territorial analyses as well as creating maps and interactive data visualisations; she is also a GIS expert. In recent years, Kitti has coordinated the preparation and also evaluation of several Interreg programmes along the Hungarian borders such as the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENI CBC Programme or the Interreg Slovakia-Hungary CBC Programme. Previously she worked as an urban planner at VÁTI Városépítési Kft., one of the most prestigious organisations in Hungary dedicated to urban development. She finished her master-level studies as a certified landscape architect at the Corvinus University of Budapest and obtained an engineering teaching degree at the same university. 

 

?️Eduardo Medeiros, Geography Professor & Research Fellow at Setúbal Polytechnic Institute 

Eduardo Medeiros is a Geography Professor, a Research Fellow in Setúbal Polytechnic Institute, and an Integrated Research Fellow in DINÂMIA'CET-IUL, Instituto Universitário de Lisboa. He has a Ph.D. and post-Ph.D. in Geography - Regional and Urban Planning, and around 200 publications, including more than 60 published papers in international journals, 12 books and 25 book chapters. He is a DG REGIO, URBACT III and EU b-solutions expert, a member of the scientific advisory panel of ESPON and the European Commission Sounding Board of the Cohesion for Transitions Community of Practice and a contributor to the Reflection Group on the future of Cohesion Policy. He is also a Regional Studies Association Fellow and a Fulbrighter. He coordinated several international policy evaluation projects and was a member of DG REGIO, ESPON and FCT projects. He is the lead expert in the Main Area of Governance in the Preparatory Action “New European Bauhaus Knowledge Management Platform” and organiser of three workshops of EURegionsWeekUniversity. 

 

?️ Simona Pohlova, Deputy Head of Unit for Interreg, Cross-border Cooperation, Internal Borders (Unit D.2. DG Regio). 

 

Simona Pohlová joined the European Commission in 2006 and worked as a manager for cross-border cooperation programmes in Central Europe for six years. She was also responsible for organising European Week of Regions and Cities, the biggest regional policy event worldwide. Since 2023, she has been the Deputy Head of Unit for Interreg, Cross-border Cooperation, Internal Borders (Unit D.2. DG Regio). Before joining the Commission, Simona Pohlová worked for the non-profit sector (the Donors´ Forum, Prague) and at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.  

 

?️ Sari Rautio, Entrepreneur, Senior Lead Armstrong Linna Oy, President of the Baltic Sea Regions IG, Member of the COTER coordinators and the Finnish delegation of the European Committee of the Regions. 

 

Sari Rautio possesses a rich professional background with roles spanning entrepreneurship, senior leadership, and advisory positions. She served as Chair of the City Board in Hämeenlinna for a substantial duration, overseeing local governance. Additionally, Sari contributed to Sitra as a senior advisor, focusing on impact investing. She has entrepreneurial experience with Aidosti ja avoimesti Oy, specializing in training and consulting. Her roles encompass diverse responsibilities, from project coordination to development management, across various organizations, including the Finnish Sports Association of the Invalids and Autismi- ja Aspergerliitto ry. Sari's career reflects her commitment to sustainable development and community engagement.
