Potential of action
The use of digital tools and processes in company law can considerably improve the business environment. Fully online formation of companies, registration of branches and filing changes in the company data in the business registers can save costs and can considerably speed up the processes.
Description of action
The overall objective of the action on facilitating the use of digital technologies throughout a company’s lifecycle is to assess how to increase the use of digital tools in the area of company law in order to modernise and rationalise interaction between companies and public authorities and create a better framework for cross-border activities of companies.

Directive (EU) 2019/1151 of 20 June 2019 amending Directive (EU) 2017/1132 as regards the use of digital tools and processes in company law has been adopted. Member States need to transpose this Directive by August 2021 (with longer deadline for some specific provisions).
