RO-HU Magazine - Partnership for a better future

We would like to present you the trilingual magazine of the Interreg V-A Romania-Hungary Programme. Under the theme “Partnerships for a better future”, the RO-HU Magazine [no. 2 (quarterly issue)], puts together information about four different cross-border healthcare projects and proves how the improvement of health services has been a steady concern for the counties in the border area between Romania and Hungary.

4C Project [Silent diseases]

The 4C Project - CURE FOR CERVICAL AND COLORECTAL CANCER proposes a new, more innovative approach that addresses cervical and colorectal cancer in an integrated manner tackling it from both preventive, diagnosis and therapeutical points of view and also from both infrastructure and know-how points of view. Improving health-care services from the Timiș and Csongrád-Csanád counties and making the treatment of cross-border patients more effective is one of the aims of the project.

The purchase and installation of 14 medical equipment is an early and key step of this project. Additional to the equipment purchase, the three project beneficiaries cooperate and partner together to complete the activities planned for the project which include, for example: Four joint workshops on cervical and colorectal cancer for 40 medical staff from Csongrád-Csanád and Timiș counties in order to improve their competences in screening, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal and cervical cancers; and awareness activities and publications (forums, brochures) for the general public, in order to inform them about a healthy lifestyle and prevention of cervical and colorectal cancer.

Stop-Germs [Battling infections]

Three hospitals have become partners in the ROHU 361 Stop-Germs project, to jointly prevent and monitor the infectious diseases and the hospital-acquired infections. Almost 2.55 million EUR (ERDF) is allocated through this project in order to develop infrastructure, to procure medical equipment and to organize several workshops, which are aimed at identifying advanced methods for prevention and treatment in the case of infectious diseases and some joint protocols in case of epidemics.

HEARTS&LIVES [Healthier Together]

The main objective of the Hearts&Lives project is to improve the preventive and curative cardiovascular and gynaecological health-care services across the three counties of Timiș, Bihor and Hajdú-Bihar. This involves the purchase and installation of modern medical equipment and investments in the diagnosis of diseases with special attention to disadvantaged groups. In the frame of this project, 3 renowned health institutions in Romania and Hungary, Timișoara Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, the County Emergency Clinical Hospital in Oradea and the University of Debrecen, have joined their efforts to lower the incidence of cardiovascular and gynaecological diseases in the region and efficiently deal with them.

CBC-HOSPEQUIP [Telemedicine is the future]

The ROHU 386 CBC-HOSPEQUIP project aims to promote a sustainable health service on both sides of the border with the help of the latest generation of medical devices and by setting up joint protocols in terms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment through the telemedicine system.

The project is starting from the real deficiencies of both partners consisting of lack of or poor (outdated devices) medical endowment that leads to a low number of medical services and low-quality health care services provided. The funds allocated to the CBC-HOSPEQUIP project amount to 2.51 million EUR (ERDF). The two hospitals will be making investments in modern surgical and diagnostic equipment with these amounts. Also, two telemedicine systems will be procured, as the doctors will have the possibility to provide diagnostics remotely, by communicating swiftly and effectively with the patients, as well as with their counterparts over the border.
