Higher education diplomas automatically recognized between the Benelux countries and the Baltic states from May 1!

Starting May 1, 2024, higher education qualifications will be automatically recognized among Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. This eliminates the need for paperwork or extra costs when moving between these nations for work or further studies.

The treaty for this recognition was conceived in 2015, initially by the Benelux countries and later expanded to include the Baltic States. This collaborative effort marks a significant step towards harmonizing higher education across Europe.

The six countries are now urging other European nations to join the treaty, with a ministerial meeting scheduled for May 13 in Brussels to further this goal. This initiative signals a commitment to broader cooperation and integration within the European Higher Education Area.
