On the 30th anniversary of the launch of Interreg, the EU’s territorial cooperation scheme, three themes have been celebrated by the EU: neighbours, green and youth. A Manifesto, launched in 2020, highlights the importance of the third theme: youth. The ideas presented were collected by European Commission staff via targeted surveys, polls, and online group discussions with young people from across Europe.

The target readership of the manifesto are policymakers at EU, national, regional, and local levels as well as Interreg Managing Authorities and project beneficiaries. The authors propose twelve recommendations which include increasing the number of online events between EU staff and young people, promoting Interreg in schools and universities, and mobilizing resources for the Interreg priority related to tackling youth unemployment.
