Changes in the economy, technology, and international trade are affecting job requirements. The Allgäu Labour Study (2022) found that 54% of companies in the region are struggling to find enough workers, and 45% say this is because people lack the right skills.
To fix this, the German-Austrian border area needs a better integrated system to recruit talented workers from the two countries. However, different training systems and the recognition of diplomas make this difficult.
Experts from the Austrian Institute for Regional Studies and Spatial Planning (ÖIR), through the b-solutions initiative, looked at these problems and suggested some solutions.
