I have been working in the field of Machine Ethics for the past two years, and I consistently find that policy making assumes that AI 'knows' more than it does. prediction of cancer to prediction of social choices, the spectrum is quite vast and AI is nowhere closeto being as omnipotent as we think [https://www.cs.princeton.edu/~arvindn/talks/MIT-STS-AI-snakeoil.pdf]. Unfortunately, the hype also leads to trust, i.e. policy makers start to trust AI [or a machine] that is suitably complicated. I fear that AI can be used as an excuse ['the-computer-says-so' syndrome] to infringe on hard-won civil and human rights , in the name of keeping up economically. Right now, we don't even know what kinds of ethics an AI can have! I organize an annual workshop on this topic: https://aristotle.ucd.
Nudging ethics is a worrisome topic, especially if this nudging is being delegated to an AI.
