IUC WEBINAR SERIES: Integrating Nature-Based Flood Management Into Urban Planning

-

Following the success of the IUC programme's webinar on international financing, we are delighted to invite you to participate in the upcoming IUC webinar 'Integrating Nature-Based Flood Management Into Urban Planning’. The webinar will take place on Wednesday 27th March 2019 from 16:00 – 17:30 CET.

Water is and has been crucial in designing urban spaces and informing urban planning. Approaches towards flood management have changed over time, from keeping water out of the city to the more recent approach of using natural water management for dealing with flood risks.

Crucial to the process of adapting to floods is knowledge transfer among cities and the cross-cultural exchange of best practices in the field of integrated water management.

It is with this spirit of encouraging inter-city learning that four cities, each of whom have dealt with flood risks through nature-based solutions and other innovative measures, will present their experiences during the IUC webinar.

Ricardo Aroeira, Director of Urban Water Management, City of Belo Horizonte (Brazil); P.Eng. Cary Clark, Manager of Development & Stormwater Engineering, City of Burlington (Canada); Leticia Leonhardt, Architect in Planning Department, City of Rosario (Argentina); and Stefania Manca (Municipality of Genoa) & Sonia Zarino (UNaLab), Genoa (Italy), will discuss the links between climate and water-related challenges and innovative governance approaches.

Participants will also have the opportunity to have their say, with time reserved for discussion.
