The Eastern Border Regions Community is a new community within the European Commission’s REGIO Peer2Peer Communities. It has been set up in response to the specific challenges facing EU regions bordering Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, where preparedness, economic and demographic pressures increasingly go hand in hand.
The Community is a space for practical exchange between peers. It brings together local, regional and national public authorities, preparedness practitioners, NGOs, experts with relevant experience, local business representatives and general public of the regions bordering Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The idea is simple: to connect people facing similar issues, help them learn from one another, and gradually build a useful community around real needs and experience from the ground.
The focus will be on preparedness and resilience, economic development, and ways to retain and attract people and businesses. Through online discussions, exchange of practices and contributions from members and invited experts, the Community will help participants identify useful approaches, share what works, and shape future topics together. Through structured knowledge exchange and peer learning, the Community will help its members build a shared understanding of common challenges and – over time – develop effective, implementable approaches that strengthen resilience and regional development.
The first online Community meeting is planned for mid-June 2026.
